The Committee of Adjustment consists of the five (5) members of Council. This Committee is authorized under Section 45 of the Planning Act to grant Minor Variances from the provisions of the Zoning By-law to allow development to proceed without it being in exact conformity with the requirements of the Zoning By-law. The Douro-Dummer Committee of the Whole consists of all five (5) members of Council. This Committee meets quarterly on the fourth Friday of the month and on other occasions when deemed necessary by Council. The Committee of the Whole provides council a less formal venue than regular council meetings for discussion of specific issues. It also provides department managers the opportunity to provide information and updates on the operations of their individual departments.
The Community Policing Advisory Committee consists of one (1) member of Council and a maximum of fifteen (15) community members. This committee works closely with the Police Services Board and organizes community events such as the Bike Rodeo which teaches children about bike safety.
The Fall Fair Board consists of one (1) member of Council and other community members as are necessary to organize and carry out the Warsaw Fall Fair. The Fall Fair Board meets as needed, usually once per month from early spring until August. Each year the Board establishes a theme for the Fair and undertakes other tasks such as approaching local businesses for donations to support the various special prize categories and to collect items for the Fair's major source of revenue: the Silent Auction. The various Board members organize and oversee entertainment, games, vendors, refreshments, the Bull of the Woods competition and various other activities that make up the Fair. Volunteers are always welcome!
The Historical Committee consists of one (1) member of Council and eleven (11) community members. The Historical Committee is very active undertaking projects throughout the whole municipality to preserve our heritage. Such projects include putting together a display of historical items at the Public Library, restoration of our abandoned cemeteries, producing a Historical Brochure which provides information about the location of cemeteries, old school houses, cheese factories, log houses, etc. and much more.
The Planning Committee consists of the five (5) members of Council. This Committee considers severance reviews and applications and provides comments to the property owners as well as to the Peterborough County Land Division Committee as to whether or not the Township supports the severance application and if there are any conditions to be imposed. The Douro-Dummer Police Services Board consists of one (1) member of Council, one (1) provincially-appointed member and one (1) community member appointed to represent the municipality. The Township is required under the Ontario Police Services Act to establish a Police Services Board which is responsible for the provision of adequate and effective police services for the municipality.
The Public Library Board consists of one (1) member of Council plus eight (8) community members appointed by Council. The Public Libraries Act requires the Township to establish a board which is responsible for the management and control of the Public Library.
The Santa Claus Parade Committee consists of one (1) member of Council and other community members as are necessary to organize and carry out the Santa Claus Parade and tree lighting ceremony. This Committee establishes a theme for the parade and organizes all aspects of the event, including organizing the parade entries, soliciting donations to help with the cost of the tree lighting and goodies for the children visiting with Santa.
